History
Created on 8/18/1998 by Orin, Fellowship
of the Holy Beacon was established as a light guild in the land known as Rhydin.
From the very start FotHB rose up among the darkness that Rhydin had been
saturated with, and served as a home to those who had none. No matter what the
race.
Under Orin's command, and with the help of die hard recruiters like
"WilfDragon". FotHB became a strong force of opposition to the dark guilds that
increased each day. Orin's period of command contained such things as recruiting
contests and sparring tournaments and life was pleasant. However, this period
only lasted for three months, as Orin was killed in October of '98.
Orin's death threw the entire guild in a state of grief, sorrow, and madness.
Nearly one-third of the guild members quit, and when it was finally handed down
to Raven, things seemed like they were going to improve.
But this was not the case, Raven could not handle the burden and handed it down
to someone else, and this triggered a chain of resigning and handing downs.
Finally, the guild ended up under the command of Smoke WolfWynd, who ran it for
about 2 to 3 weeks, but due to serious problems, he too had to hand it down.
But Smoke did not hand the guild down to his SIC like all the previous did, he
handed it down to his friend and commander of the Paladin Division, Fox Zandar.
Fox received the guild in a complete state of chaos, but did not give up like
most of the previous leaders. He worked on repairing the damaged state for over
2 months, until finally bringing it back to functioning condition. After a few
months of settling in, FotHB slowly returned to normal, and new things were
added. A guild newsletter was made up to keep members updated, but to also let
them express themselves and have something that was contributed by all of them.
The rosters colors were reworked, Division pictures were added, and special
titles were given to each division rank. Many attempts at running mock wars were
tried, but the only guild activity was a Battle of the Sexes, which was a huge
success. The guild also switched forums to RGC (The Rhydin Guilds
Confederation), when their previous forum CRG (Coalition of Rhydin Guilds)
vanished mysteriously. And finally, a guild message board was added, with both
IC and OOC sections.
Fox befell to all the previous commander's fates when he too was forced to leave
right after the BotS. He handed the guild down to Slice Ranix his SIC who had no
previous guild commanding experience, but wanted to prove himself to everyone
else.
Slice proved one thing only, that he was not capable of running a guild. Slice
demolished the roster and Newsletter, and threw the guild into another period of
chaos. Activity stopped dead, members quit, and it seemed as if FotHB was doomed
yet again. But Fox had appointed a second commander just in case Slice could not
handle it. Zero, Fox's best friend, picked up the guild as soon as Slice
resigned. And while he did not have much to work with, picked the guild back out
of it's ditch. And slowly repaired the damage Slice had done.
Zero held the guild together until January 1, 2000, when Fox returned and
resumed command. To present date the guild is under the command of Fox Zandar,
and Zero has gone back to his former DC of Paladins spot. The guild is growing
in members every day, and is proudly allied with 12 other guilds of both Light
and Dark alignment, from 15 members to 80, and more.
Some time around spring 2000, Orin returned somehow, and expressed his gratitude
to Fox for keeping the guild alive after all these years. At first it looked as
if Orin was going to join the guild once more, as a member this time, but it was
later shown what his true intentions were. Orin planned to take the guild back
over, and then merge it with ECHO, which was one of FotHB's allies, and was led
by Orin's sister at the time. Orin's demanding of the guild to be handed back to
him, did not sit well with Fox, nor the members. A war nearly broke out between
ECHO and FotHB, as Orin threatened he would take the guild back if Fox would not
hand it over willingly. But the war was called off, as the members in FotHB
vowed to leave or make his life a living hell if Orin took over. Orin ended up
vanishing once more and the few remaining members from when Orin was leader,
can't help but feel sorry that his memory is now stained. Instead of remembering
him as the kind, great person who founded FotHB, he will mostly be remembered as
the tyrant who tried to take over and throw the guild into total chaos.
Summer of 2000 was the guild's second Battle of the Sexes Tournament. Fox knew
he wanted to do something different and better than last year's CM's, but could
not think of what. Finally, he devised a "Transformation Match" or TM. This
match would be set up as worth 5 points, but if you lose 3, you are switched
from your normal sex, to the opposite sex, in the fullest way, thanks to the
mages. After being switched, you must win 3 TMs for the opposite side, to gain
your original sex back. This match formula was a smash hit, as depending on what
number of TM switched members was, it could make, or break, your team. The girls
ended up winning it yet again, but almost everyone had a blast, and that's what
really matters in the end. BotS3 was held in the summer of 2001. Everything
remained the same, rules-wise, but the contest was extended out to included two
guilds. FotHB and UBoD (United Blades of Destiny). Fox and the grand commander
of UBoD, Devlin (VaeynXI), had gotten to be fairly good friends, so the offer
was put out and Devlin accepted. This proved to be a smash hit in both guilds,
and UBoD got to experience the horrors and hilarity of the TM match, along with
many other BotS perks.
The tournament went over so well with UBoD that Devlin decided to offer a
similar opportunity to FotHB. A merger sparring tournament. Not silly and
cracked out like the BotS battles are, but serious. Both guilds are very eager
to do this, and that tournament has been slated for 1 or 2 weeks after BotS4,
which will happen sometime around the middle of June. More special additions are
planned for this year’s installment, but that’s a secret.
On 4/28/02, Fox Zandar, the guild GC for around 4 years time, stepped down from
the GC position (for the second time actually. The first time Night had problems
and he had to take it back). The guild was handed down to Nightwind
Moonstalker-Tenshi, who was SiC at the time. Night has been with the guild for
around 3 years, SiC for 1 year, and was personally trained by Fox in all aspects
of GC-dom. Night has requested hat Fox become her advisor, so that is where he
has moved to, still ready and willing to help out with anything needed. If all
goes well, Night will keep the guild going strong for many more years to come.
She all the help she needs, and the skill to do a fine job. Fox, and the rest of
the guild, wishes her the best of luck.
Latest History
At the beginning of August, Fox was forced to take back the guild and become GC
again. Of course, no one truly made him come back, but Night had to leave, and
he did not want to see it fall. Alex Pendragon was to be trained by Night, for
this very day, but that never actually happened. And so, because Fox didn't want
the guild to fall into disarray, he returned to being the grand commander.
It was around this time that the guild was ready for the fourth Battle of the
Sexes, and Fox likes to do something new for them each year, but this time he
needed help. Collaborating with Devlin Drakunis, they decided to work out what
everyone was begging for last year, a Mass Transformation Match. Set up so if
you lose once, despite how many single TMs you might have on you already, you
change instantly. Thus making it a much feared match. Only the bravest went for
this one, or stupidest, depending how you look at it. UBoD also joined with
FotHB for another year of this, making that 4 consecutive years of total success
with this event.
October 14th was that mark for FotHB's first Art contest, which went for about a
month. This contest had members send in any of their artwork, to be judged by 3
other members. FoxxDragon311 (a professional Artist), SonGopan (an Artist, but
not professional yet), and Revaelty (a non-artist for a general non-bias
opinion). This contest shared mild success, and despite 3 guilds participating
(FotHB, UBoD and MAGE) barely 10 people sent work in. However, since multiple
entries were allowed, some who send things in sent as many as 6 entries. Making
the contest at least full of artwork, even if mostly from 1 or 2 people.
Now the guild is in the middle, and near end, of a background writing contest.
You write about your own background, and the best one wins. This will be over
soon, and then the results and maybe even the stories will be posted up here. So
that concludes the history lesson, we're all up to date. You can check back for
more later, or join up with the guild and make some history of your own.
